PARENT SEMINAR
ATTENDANCE INFORMATION AND DIRECTIONS
If you are a party
to a dissolution with children, a paternity action involving custody
and/or parenting time with children, or a modification to one of those
actions, the District Court requires your attendance of “What
About the Children,” a parent education seminar, preferably within
60 days following the filing of your action. The seminar is partly education,
and partly to prepare you for working out your Parenting Plan which
will be included with your decree or modification, and should therefore
be attended prior to working our your plan. The seminar is presented
on alternating Thursdays from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.; it is necessary
for you to register for the session you plan to attend. Call
444-7168 and follow the voice mail prompts. If you have your docket
and page number you may also register on this site. You are expected
to remain for the entire seminar presentation. Attendance sheets are
distributed during the last part of the session.
Payment
of $50 fee is required prior to seminar attendance.
Please
mail to:
Clerk of the District Court
1701 Farnam Street
Omaha, NE 68183
Please arrive inside
the courthouse by 4:45 p.m., and come to the Conciliation Office located
on the Harney St. level (lower level) of the building. The courthouse
doors are locked shortly thereafter; if you are unavoidably detained
you may enter the building through the Farnam Street entrance to the
Civic Center until 5:00 p.m. Due to security precautions no
admittance is permitted after that time.
You will be given
exit directions at the close of the seminar, since exits are limited
after the building has been secured. You are required to be screened
upon entry to the courthouse by electronic metal detectors, so please
leave behind any knives, work tools, box cutters, pepper sprays or other
similar items which could be considered as weapons and could set off
the metal detector. Such items will be confiscated by security personnel
and will not be returned to you, or you must return them to your vehicle
before you will be allowed entry to the courthouse.
Stepparents, significant others or extended family members who spend
time with your children are welcome to attend but also must register
and sign in on the attendance sheet. Please do not bring infants
or children; the topics covered are for adults only.
Should a problem
arise regarding your attendance after you have registered for a seminar,
please contact our office at 444-7168. Attendance changes cannot be
accomplished through this site and also require a phone call.
