Application Information

How to apply to Drug Court

If the eligibility criteria are met and the participant wishes to apply for admission into the Drug Court Program, the first step is to consult with a Defense Attorney immediately. The Defense Attorney will then need to consult with the County Attorney and if approved, the appropriate petition requesting admission will then need to be filled out.

Admission Petition

The following are the current forms to be used when applying for admission to the Douglas County Adult Drug Court. Keep in mind that these forms are to be filled out in their entirety, signed and presented at the time of the plea.

  1. PETITION REQUESTING ADMISSION TO THE ADULT DRUG COURT TRACK ONE
  2. PETITION REQUESTING ADMISSION TO THE ADULT DRUG COURT TRACK TWO

Please be aware that the defendant, by entering a guilty plea on his or her charge(s), will not automatically be admitted into either Track. Final eligibility status will be determined by the Adult Drug Court Judge, County Attorney, and Drug Court Team. A plea of guilty must be entered to initiate the admission process.

Track One & Track Two

If the defendant meets the criteria for either Drug Court Track, the defendant and counsel will be scheduled to meet in the appropriate District Court Judge's courtroom to enter a guilty plea. Upon entering a guilty plea, signing all necessary paperwork, and presenting to the judge:

  • The admission petition
  • Police reports including current charge(s)
  • Defendant's criminal record

The defendant will then be instructed by the judge to attend the next Drug Court Track hearing whether it is on Wednesday for Track Two or Tuesday/Thursday for Track One. Failure to show at the initial Drug Court hearing may be responded to by the judge issuing a warrant for the defendant's arrest.
